Upgrading from 1.0 to 1.6 would not require a new license key.
Upgrading from 1.6 to 2.0 will require a new license key.
Customers who are current on their maintenance can acquire a new license key from Linoma Software at no additional cost.
With the iSeries install, there is a prgram called SAVPRD in the GOANYWHERE library. This program will save all of the Goanywhere IFS & Library files to one Save file.
Prompt GOANYWHERE/SAVPRD and save the GOANYWHERE library/IFS files to a save file in a library outside of GoAnywhere.
In the GoAnywhere client, check to see what you have set to keep the job logs. (Administration -> Global Settings -> Logging). A setting of 0 days will keep the old job logs forever. Depending on how many projects you run in a day, you could safely keep just a few days to a month. The cleanup of these log files is scheduled to be done at midnight.
From the GoAnywhere Administrator tab select check for updates, if it does not take you to the download link you can use this link: http://www.goanywheremft.com/download
You will need to scroll down to the upgrade section.
Please download the instructions “GoAnywhere Director Upgrade Instructions” and the jar file for the upgrade GoAnywhere Director Upgrade
When you download the file and documentation do a "left-click" on the file link. Performing a right-click with SaveTarget/Link As... may cause problems in certain browsers.
Make sure that you scroll down to GoAnywhere Director Upgrade, NOT the NEW INSTALL
Your upgrade path will be:
GoAnywhere Director Upgrade from 1.x to 2.0.0
GoAnywhere Director Upgrade from 2.x to 3.0.2
GoAnywhere Director Upgrade from 3.x to 3.2.1
GoAnywhere Director Upgrade from 3.2.1+ to 3.5.1
GoAnywhere Director Upgrade from 3.5.1+ to 3.6.1
GoAnywhere Director Upgrade from 3.6.1 to 4.0.
During the upgrade, a save file is created. This file contains the library & IFS files associated with GoAnywhere.
Before doing an upgrade, I would clean up the GoAnywhere IFS a little.
When you do an upgrade, it creates a folder called BACKUP. If you do multiple upgrades, then you will see several versions of this backup folder.
The BACKUP folder will contain a backup of your GoAnywhere IFS files. This folder can be safely removed once you have determined that the upgrade was successful. (maybe a few days after the upgrade was applied & things have been running)
In the IFS, is a folder called: /linoma/goanywhere/userdata/workspace In that folder are directories that contain temporary work files. If the project should fail or if the project did not have a ‘delete workspace’ command, then files are not removed. Unless you are debugging a project, these files can be removed.
In the IFS, is a file called /linoma/goanywhere/tomcat/logs/catalina.out This log file will continue to grow until the subsystem is stopped. If you rename or delete this file, a new one will be created when the subsystem is restarted. I have a couple customers who on a quarterly basis will delete the catalina.old file, stop the subsystem, rename the catalina.out to catalina.old, then restart the subsystem.

* The check for updates action will send a request from the server GoAnywhere is installed on to our server at Linoma Software. In some cases your server may be protected in the fact that it cannot send requests to an external address. To get around that you will either need to open up the firewall, use a proxy server, or download the files from a computer connected to the internet by following this URL http://www.goanywheretoday.com/download
